Olafur Eliasson: Reality Projector
Renowned Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson engages the broader public sphere through architectural projects and interventions in civic space. For his site-specific exhibition at the Marciano Art Foundation, the artist conceived of a seemingly simple yet complex installation: using projected light and the existing architecture of the museum, he would create a dynamic shadow play referencing both the city's history of filmmaking and the gallery's former function as a theater. Published on the occasion of this exhibition, Olafur Eliasson: Reality Projector documents Eliasson's transformation of the space into an abstract, three-dimensional film featuring a unique soundtrack made in collaboration with Icelandic musician and sound artist Jónsi. This recent work continues the artist's interests in perception, movement, embodied experience and feelings of self.
